In this traditional Vietnamese variant of the Cinderella story, Tam is mistreated by her step-mother and half-sister, Cam, and cheated of promised rewards when she completes the hardest of tasks. With the intervention of a mysterious woman and the workings of a magic fish, Tam acquires rich garments and brocaded slippers, one of which falls into the hands of a Prince who is determined to find and marry its owner.
