This light-hearted picture book set in a southern swamp with a cast of African American characters gives a soulful twist to its tale of a singing Cinderella who turns out to be the lost daughter of the Queen of Rhythm. The foundling Cinderella is mistreated by her Crooked Foster Mother whose two pesky daughters can only croak like toads, whereas our heroine gets to sing at the Great Gospel Convention and, with the aid of the Prince of Music, is restored to her rightful place in musical royalty.
