A simple but richly illustrated retelling of the traditional Russian folk tale of Christmas. The three wise men visit Babushka and tell her that a baby has been born under a star, so she sets out with delicious sweetmeats and toys for the child. However she is unable to find them or the baby and so now wanders giving out gifts to all she meets. The glowingly coloured crayon and watercolour illustrations by Amanda Hall complement the story beautifully, presenting traditional details such as cosy interiors and brightly covered 'babushkas' (head scarves)and conjuring up the Russian winter landscape.
