This simple picture book introduces the Indian art of rangoli - festive designs used to decorate courtyards, walls, and places of worship. A young girl admires the rangoli her grandmother has drawn with rice flour and sugar just outside her village house, and begins to notice other rangoli in the street, around doorways and in front of temples. Her grandmother shows her a simple design to fit on the threshold of the girl's flat in the city, and a template for this is given on the book's back cover.
