In this novel for older readers, the author dramatises issues of prejudice in a rural context: when 16 year old Imogen takes a holiday job in the village inn, she attracts the attention of various obsessive characters which threaten her budding romance with Farid, an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, and ultimately endanger both of their lives. The novel maps the connections between bullies and victims of prejudice on many levels, whilst developing a fast-paced, dynamic plot.
