This picture book combines photographs of Gervelie, her family and friends with colour illustrations, some full page, to recreate the story of her escape from Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, to a new life in Norwich, where she and her father find asylum after a long and hazardous journey from their war-torn home country. Gervelie describes in her own words the difficulties she and her father experience as refugees dealing with a new country, unfamiliar language, and the pain of separation from other family members.
