Karim, a 12 year old Palestinian boy, living in Ramallah under Israeli military occupation, is drawn into the violence that has overtaken every aspect of daily life. He longs for ordinary freedoms and through his friendship with a boy from a refugee camp helps transform a piece of waste land into a football field and hideout. His experiences and those of his friends and family are crafted into an eloquent and moving narrative which acknowledges injustices whilst warning against oversimplifications.
