This third book of the 'Breadwinner' trilogy follows the experiences of one of Parvana's friends, Shauzia, a 14 year old girl who dreams similarly of escaping one day to France. But reality is a crowded refugee camp outside Peshawar in Pakistan, where her former teacher from Kabul lectures her on making the best of a difficult situation. Shauzia tries to find her own way of escape, but after living amongst the city's street children for a while, she returns to the camp and takes up the challenge to do something useful, following her teacher back into Afghanistan to help those trapped by the impending war.
