My Name is Not Refugee A poignant, timely book for younger readers which will help them understand the refugee crisis, by giving a sense of what it is like to be on the outside and to leave all that you know. A mother tells her young child that they will have to leave their town and to pack what he can carry, as it is no longer safe. The forbidding and alienating nature of becoming a refugee is powerfully expressed in the illustrations, with their predominant use of grey as a background, although the child is always represented with some colour. On each page, the reader is encouraged to interact with the protagonist's experience with a question (highlighted in a different colour background): 'How far could you walk?', 'What would you take?'. The story ends in a place of safety and a reminder that although the child will be called 'refugee', 'that is not your name'.
