This picture book deals with the anxieties of a homesick child, a recent immigrant from Ghana to America. On his first night in a strange city, Kofi climbs into his sister's bed where she comforts him with stories of their native Africa, making him laugh at the exploits of Anansi and engaging him with a fable about a turtle outwitting those who teased him for his sloth. The twin poles of their world are conjured up in striking illustrations contrasting the night-time city and the sun-baked African landscapes.
