This very funny but touching story about the relationship between two Mongolian brothers and their Liverpool classmates is a worthy winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. It is presented in the form of a handwritten notebook with occasional photographs in which Julie, now a young woman, puzzles over the strange but enriching friendship she enjoyed in her last year of Primary School with the two newcomers to her class who singled her out as their 'Good Guide' . It was an unforgettable, special time in her life, and she is haunted by the brutality of their sudden disappearance - when they are deported as illegal immigrants and not even allowed a moment to collect a coat hanging on its peg at school.
