This account of the Kindertransport combines personal testimonies, photographs and explanatory passages to describe how around ten thousand unaccompanied Jewish children found refuge in Britain just before the outbreak of the 2nd World War. Travellling by train and boat, allowed to take with them only one small suitcase, the children face bewildering new experiences in temporary camps and foster homes, as well as the trauma and pain of separation from their own families.
