This book presents the history of the slave trade in short sections combining factual information, analysis and a variety of photographs, maps and illustrations. It considers three main topics: the growth of the transatlantic slave trade; slavery in the Americas; and the legacy of the slave trade in the modern world. It examines within the context of colonialism the lasting impact on Africa of the trade and its abolition, and highlights modern forms of slavery that continue to blight millions of lives.
