This substantial information book (192 pages) takes a world view of slavery and a similarly broad historical perspective: it includes a whole section on slavery in ancient China, Classical Greece and Rome and its acceptance within early Christian and Muslim societies, before dealing with all aspects of the Atlantic Slave Trade, the long fight for abolition, and the continuing struggle for human rights up to the present day. There is a wealth of visual material: photographs, prints, maps and original illustration, and a variety of short texts including many dramatic and moving personal accounts.
